Job Description

About the Position : Collaborate closely with plant leadership to uphold and enhance safety and environmental compliance. Champion a culture of safety by ensuring the consistent application, communication, and improvement of safety and environmental systems. Evaluate program effectiveness through routine audits and share findings with leadership to drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities :

  • Design, implement, and refine safety and environmental programs to ensure alignment with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Deliver training, guidance, and technical expertise to support the effective rollout of safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Work alongside plant leaders to prepare for and successfully navigate regulatory inspections.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of hazardous waste management strategies at each facility.
  • Track and assess safety and environmental performance metrics, identifying areas for enhancement through improved tools, training, and procedures.
  • Stay informed on evolving occupational safety and health regulations and ensure organizational compliance.
  • Provide expert safety guidance across departments to proactively reduce risks and exposures.
  • Support the development of emergency response teams and ensure readiness through training, drills, and equipment checks.
  • Collaborate with leadership to set safety objectives and implement strategies to meet performance targets and KPIs.
  • Promote a zero-incident mindset and foster active employee participation in safety initiatives.
  • Lead incident investigations, analyze trends, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure thorough reporting and root cause analysis of all incidents, near misses, and first aid cases.
  • Maintain systems for tracking safety and environmental data, including injuries, risk assessments, and corrective actions; use insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular internal audits to identify hazards and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Perform risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies for non-routine tasks and potential hazards.
  • Ensure contractor safety through pre-qualification processes and ongoing worksite evaluations.
  • Partner with HR on workers’ compensation, return-to-work programs, and employee training.
  • Encourage a collaborative approach to achieving safety and environmental goals.
  • Support food safety and product quality by adhering to GMPs and reporting any concerns that may impact compliance with the SQF Food Safety Code.
  • Serve as backup for the HR Manager and Plant Manager as needed.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with Texas environmental regulations is a plus.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience managing safety programs.
  • Experience in food manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of federal and state regulatory frameworks and implementation best practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other digital tools.
  • Skilled in developing and delivering training using various formats.
  • Proven leadership and team-building capabilities with a passion for driving positive change.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
