Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced HR Generalist, who will be responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and assisting the HR Manager in coordinating Human Resources programs and tasks. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Recruiting & Staffing

  • Assists with updating and organizing job descriptions for every position working with the HR Manager and Department Heads.
  • Conducts phone screenings of applicants.
  • Assists with scheduling in person interviews.
  • Conducts all pre-employment activities.
  • Prepares and conducts new hire orientations and processes all new hire documentation.

Talent Management

  • Owns the Performance Management System function. Maintains and updates the system adding and terminating employees as needed.
  • Assigns appropriate evaluations at the appropriate times.
  • Assists with developing specific skill training materials and presentations.
  • Assigns trainings and trains new employees as needed.
  • Assists managing the annual performance evaluation process.
  • Assists in coordination, facilitation, and scheduling training activities.
  • Supports HR Manager with staff development, succession planning, and talent management strategies.
  • Assists in searching for and facilitating professional development opportunities working with HR Manager and department heads.

Employee Relations

  • Provides guidance to employees and supervisors relative to policy administration and interpretation.
  • Assists in development of office and field employee communications.
  • Helps develop and plan employee activities/parties.
  • Assures discreet handling of all personnel business with sensitivity to confidential matters.
  • Coordinates and manages field vacation calendar.

Labor Relations

  • Creates and sustains effective relationships with local union personnel to keep abreast of available union labor resources.
  • Works with Business Agents and dispatch from all unions to which we are signatory to develop and sustain relationships and lines of communication relative to available union labor resources and company needs.
  • Manages the union worker request process and “Local Hire” requirement activities as outlined in project specific documents and works with other departments.
  • Coordinates and manages apprenticeship trainings and tracking of all trades apprenticeship programs.

HR Compliance

  • Assists in maintaining all personnel records in accordance with EEO, privacy, and related requirements.
  • Assists in regulatory compliance of the HR program, including posting required notifications, generating applicable documentation, and maintenance of employee files.
  • Manages I-9 forms, terminations and archiving processes. Ensures compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; and periodically conducts audits.
  • Manages the Employee Referral Program and the DMV Pull Program.
  • Assists in HR compliance audits.
  • Assists in the exit interview process.
  • Assists HR Manager with updating policies and procedures.

General HR Duties

  • Provides comprehensive HR generalist support to HR Manager.
  • Remains current on developments in the HR field.
  • Assists in filing and maintaining employee personnel files and HRIS databases.
  • Creates correspondence, memos, reports, and other documents as needed.
  • Attends HR related seminars and trainings.
  • Processes PCN’s/Union wage changes in a timely manner, obtaining appropriate approvals when necessary.
  • Translation of documents from English to Spanish.
  • Coordinates administrative HR research projects and/or special projects associated with the HR department as assigned.
  • Assists with coverage and training of front desk as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • HR Generalist experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially written communications.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization with the ability to work individually and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop strong trusting relationships to gain support, achieve results, and to manage multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Proven ability to research and analyze information, make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues.
  • Ability to be flexible, self-directed, motivated, and able to interact with employees at all levels.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, spoken and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience in the general construction industry preferred.
  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR Certification preferred.
  • Experience working with unions (Laborers, Cement Masons, Carpenters, Operating Engineers) A PLUS!
