POSITION SUMMARY:

The General Maintenance person is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Stella Maris Convent. The primary function of the role is the hands-on maintenance of the Convent and overseeing the outside contractors. We are looking for this individual to work up to 32 hours a week, days can vary, must be flexible with schedule, some weekends may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 3 years' experience in maintenance.

Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and terminology of building trades.

Exhibits strong leadership skills and the ability to demonstrate a high degree of initiative and self-direction.

Ability to work a flexible schedule in case of emergencies at Stella Maris Convent, School and other CSJ properties in the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

Basic computer knowledge (Microsoft Office including Word and Excel).

Technical School Certification a plus

• Must be fully COVID vaccinated.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including but is not limited to):

Maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Ensure the safety and efficiency of all mechanical equipment including HVAC and all utilities.

Inspect buildings and systems to determine the need for alteration and repairs.

Perform maintenance and repairs in the areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting.

Perform routine maintenance and annual inspections of all buildings systems.

Develop and oversee preventative maintenance initiatives, including renovations and repairs.

Accompany appropriate state/local authorities during building and utility systems inspections.

Schedule in-house maintenance, following up on projects and signing off on quality of work.

Determine cost and efficiency of staff work vs. outside contractors.

Responsible for convent readiness and security during major weather events.

Participates in safety/emergency training programs provided by management.

Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, use hands and fingers to handle, grasp, feel or operate objects or tools, and reach with hands and arms, bend, carry, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch.

Ability to lift or move up to 75 lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision acuity to perform activities within arm's reach and to adjust focus.
