Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking an Estimator responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects from concept through final bid. This role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of construction means and methods, and the ability to collaborate closely with project managers, preconstruction teams, and clients to ensure bids are competitive, complete, and aligned with company goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to develop a clear understanding of scope.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for labor, materials, and subcontractor work.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and vendor bids.
  • Work with project managers and preconstruction teams to develop budgets and proposals.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, value engineering options, and potential risks.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry pricing, labor rates, and market conditions.
  • Assist in bid reviews, presentations, and client meetings.
  • Support transition from preconstruction to project management, ensuring estimate accuracy through project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred) OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of estimating experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience with project such as schools, park districts, and affordable housing is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, OST, Sage, ProEst, or equivalent).
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
